Movieman's Technical Review: In addition to the theatrical version, the Blu-ray offers an "unmasked" version that is approximately 13.5 minutes longer, as well as very fine sharpness values that reveal the full depth of the image (00.11.18, faces) and show every detail. The contrast is also brilliant and reproduces the best brightness nuances (00.06.35, dark wood paneling). Artifacts are barely noticeable, except to an unavoidable extent, such as a minimal, momentary loss of sharpness during camera movements (00.05.30). Occasionally, noise is noticeable on light wall surfaces (00.11.59), but it is not truly distracting. The very lifelike colors, which always accurately reflect the lighting situation, round off a successful mastering job. Acoustically, the disc offers a small tonal feast. A vibrant and authentic soundscape for this genre is conjured up on the six channels. From the lifelike reverberation of the speaking voice in the kitchen (32.40) to the excellent ambiance of the various festivities (00.27.20), to the transparent music mix, a plastic sound picture is offered. Every creaking door is locatable, and the effects (10.27) are celebrated with a wide frequency spectrum. The Blu-ray offers several extras, such as 2 scenes that were not in the film. The author gets to speak for 3 minutes, and a featurette dedicates almost 5 minutes to the directing work. In addition, there are more short videos about the dangerous reunion and new dangers and more. All of this could have been combined into a "making-of." Conclusion: Neither fish nor fowl.
