Miranda doesn't have it easy. The 17-year-old's mother left a long time ago; her father Charlie has just spent 2 years in a mental institution. To keep afloat, Miranda dropped out of school and took a job at McDonald's. Now Charlie is back. And he's stranger and crazier than ever, and completely penniless to boot. What's more, he's obsessed with the crazy idea of unearthing the hidden treasure of a 17th-century Spanish conqueror: Charlie tirelessly searches for it all over Southern California - and finds it. The catch: A huge supermarket now stands where the treasure is supposed to be buried. Of all people, Miranda is supposed to help Charlie get his hands on the Spanish gold doubloons...
