The Outer Worlds is a new single-player, first-person sci-fi role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.
In The Outer Worlds, you awaken on a wayward colonist ship that was en route to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth on the edge of the galaxy, and find yourself in the midst of a gigantic conspiracy that could lead to its destruction. As you explore the outermost reaches of space and encounter various power-hungry factions, the character you develop will determine the course of the player-driven story. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

- Everyone has their weaknesses – and that's a good thing: New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. An interesting hero is defined by their weaknesses. When playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experiences and recognizes what you find particularly difficult. Attacked by Raptidons again and again? Choose the "Raptiphobia" flaw to gain a disadvantage in combat against these savage creatures – in exchange, you immediately receive an additional character perk. This optional feature helps you optimally prepare your character for the dangers of Halcyon.
- Lead your companions: On your journey through the distant colony, you will encounter a number of characters who want to join your crew. These companions have unique abilities and all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It's up to you to help these characters achieve their goals or to use them for your own purposes.
- Explore the Colony: Halcyon is a colony on the edge of the galaxy, run by a corporate board. This board controls everything... except for the alien monsters that were left behind when the terraforming of the colony's two planets didn't quite go according to plan. Find your ship, assemble a crew, and explore the facilities, space stations, and other interesting locations throughout Halcyon.
