The house of her recently deceased mother is an ugly place for Annie, full of bad memories. She never wanted to be here again, but now two women have disappeared in this house. Filmmaker Nicholas McCarthy had almost given up hope of making it in Hollywood when his 11-minute horror short film The Pact attracted the attention of a film company at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2011. And so the already 40-year-old McCarthy could only lie when asked if he had a script for an entire feature film: "Of course, it's finished. Just give me a few weeks for the fine-tuning." McCarthy, who was infected with a severe film fever at the age of eight by Jaws, worked his short film into a feature film screenplay within six weeks and finished his horror thriller in time for its premiere at the Sundance Festival in 2012.

The Pact clearly shows its creator's Jaws virus. Because if there's one thing McCarthy masterfully controls, it's the play with high tension that keeps adrenaline levels at their peak and sends shiver after shiver down your spine. McCarthy has powerfully demonstrated that he doesn't need a 100 million budget and a huge CGI crew for this.
